Biography

Diedre Spencer has been a long-term member of the craft community, a multi-skilled craft artist, and volunteer, active since the 1970s, weaver, jeweler and knowledgeable about ceramics. In 1970 she was writing for Craft Contacts and in 1976 Deidre was the Western Canadian editor for Craft Canada.
She was involved with the Craftsman Association of BC, (Gail Rogers-Director) and in 1978 she and Barbara Lambert (daughter of 1950s BC potters, Adolf and Louise Schwenk) took over Hiro Urakami’s House of Ceramics and ran it as a multi-media gallery for a few years.
1986 Diedre Spencer managed the first rendition of the shop and Gallery of BC Ceramics, known then as Spring Gallery, alongside Hiro Urakami who concentrated on the exhibitions. Known for her elegant hats.
