Biography
American born Masatada Funo , in Seattle, Washington, attended the University of Chicago graduating from Psychology studies sometime in the 1960s. At some point in the 1970s he immigrated to Vancouver and started his self-taught practice. Mas became a widely collected and much-loved Raku artist. In the 1980s he was one of the few ceramicists exhibited outside of a craft gallery, at the Bau-Xi Gallery in Vancouver. His work was contemplative - starting with an egg shape, he pinched out a sensitive organic lidded form, and used subtle surface incising and glaze. He exhibited at many galleries across Canada, and in Vancouver at the House of Ceramics, the Gallery of BC Ceramics, and the Bau-Xi.
