Biography
Meadows operated Great Canadian Design Works with interior designer Leah Errington between 1978 and 1986. The company made contemporary slip-cast porcelain giftware which they sold in their production facility/store located at Lonsdale and the Upper Levels Highway in North Vancouver. They also sold through Danica Wholesale and numerous craft and interior design outlets in BC, including Rhinoceros on Granville Island. The company also did custom work for Expo 86, White Spot, and Ridley Terminals.
Meadows had learned slip casting at BC Ceramics in 1966-67 where he also made moulds and managed the tunnel kiln.
According to him, in the 60s and 70s, "slip casting was looked down upon by many in the pottery community, but we eventually received recognition and I was asked to conduct workshops on the technique."
Meadows also taught secondary school art in Ontario and BC (1968-1974) and ceramics at the UBC Faculty of Education (1975) and later in Kitwe, Zambia.
