Biography
Shaun Peter Mallonga was born in Vancouver, BC. He is a queer Filipino-Canadian artist living and working on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples - Squamish, Stó:lō, Tsleil-Waututh, and Musqueam Nations. Having spent most of his formative years in both the Philippines and India, he migrated back to Canada with his family seeking brighter futures. His work uses narrative to investigate the malleability and tension of identity evoked by his experiences of migration and queer identity. Shaun’s practice in ceramics began at Langara College (2014) and he completed his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts degree at the Alberta College of Art + Design (2017). Shaun has exhibited widely and participated in residencies at Medalta and Harbourfront Centre, Artist in Residence programme, Toronto. He is a member of the collective The Dusty Babes and he teaches at JustPotters, Arts Umbrella, and the Shadbolt Centre of the Arts.
